A pipe that's spraying water, a toilet backing up sewage, or the smell of gas is an emergency. Every minute the water runs, it soaks into floors and walls, so calling now costs you a lot less trouble than waiting until morning.
Find your main shut-off valve. It's usually where the water line enters the house or near the street meter. Turn it clockwise until it stops. That kills the flow to the whole home and stops the flooding.
If the burst is close to your water heater, switch it off. For gas units, turn the dial to pilot. For electric, flip the breaker. This keeps it from heating an empty tank.
Turn on a faucet on the lowest floor. That drains the leftover water in the pipes and takes pressure off the leak while we drive to you.
Pull rugs, electronics, and boxes away from the water. Lay down towels to slow the spread. Don't touch outlets or breakers if they're wet.
Call us and tell us what you see. We'll keep you on the phone and coach you until the plumber gets there.
When our plumber pulls up, the first job is stopping the damage. We confirm the water or gas is shut down, find the source, and get the immediate hazard under control. Then we show you what failed and what it'll take to fix it, so you're not guessing.
Some things can't wait. A burst pipe, a sewage backup, no water in the house, a gas smell, or a water heater dumping on the floor all need someone out fast. Other things, like a slow drip under the sink or a running toilet, are real problems but they can be scheduled for a normal visit. If you're not sure which one you've got, call and describe it. We'll tell you straight.
We cover Gonzales and the whole valley, from Soledad and Greenfield down to King City and San Ardo, plus Salinas, Prunedale, Castroville, and the coast around Monterey and Marina. Most days we're at your door in about 45 minutes.
One honest safety note: if you smell gas, don't flip switches or light anything. Get everyone outside, leave the door open, and call from the yard or a neighbor's place. If water is anywhere near your electrical panel or outlets, keep clear and let the plumber handle it.
Nights, weekends and holidays cost the same as Tuesday morning. Call (831) 555-0109 and a Gonzales plumber picks up.
